Family Therapy
Sometimes when one member of the family is struggling with a problem, it can be helpful to bring the entire resources of the family to bear on the problem. This is particularly helpful when the nature of the problem is causing the whole family difficulties.
The following is a list of problems for which there is a significant amount of scientific evidence that suggest complete recovery is possible using family therapy.
Eating Disorders
Drug and Alcohol Problems
Behavioral Problems
Conflict due to divorce/seperation
Treatment resistant Depression
Treatment resistant Anxiety
If you or someone in your family is struggling with these issues, it may be useful to evaluate whether family therapy is appropriate. Feel free to contact me to discuss the appropriateness of family therapy.
Some of the tasks in family therapy may include:
Identify, examine, and transform the impact of multigenerational patterns, such as drug and alcohol abuse, violence, disrespect, perfectionism, trauma, and disabling fear.
Identify, examine, and transform communication patterns that keep families stuck.
Explore how difficult emotions are handled in the family.
Explore the roles different family members play in the family
Often in the heat of the moment when these issues are at their stongest it is hard to see a way out, family members become stressed and the quality of relationships deteriorate. Although there are no quarentees, I want you to know that there is hope and many familes manage to turn things around, once they put their minds to it and get help. I look forward to speaking with you to explore whether working with me might be a good fit for your family.
